Eat n’ Lime Food Tour Antigua

Traditional Antiguan

What’s the best excursion for ANY foodie?

One that includes food of course! I have traveled globally and I have never experienced a food excursion quite like Eat N’ Lime Food Tour in Antigua. I have done cooking classes, bar crawls, taste samples, but none has compared to what I experienced on this tour. The flavors, the lessons, the portions, the history was *chef’s kiss* exquisite!

I bet you’re wondering what is “Eat N’ Lime Food Tour” is, so I will share more before I ramble into the details. It is a food tour, or “food crawl” as I like to call it, stopping and supporting local eateries around the neighborhood of St. John’s in Antigua.

The best way to experience a country is by literally tasting it

Price

The value of this tour far exceeds the $105 price tag. Supporting local family-owned shops, eating fresh ingredients, and learning new bartending skills is priceless. This tour included 3 meals, 2 snacks, and 2 delicious beverages of classic Antiguan staples.

Tip: Wear comfortable shoes for the walk

food Experience

This food crawl is like no other. Over the span of 3 hours, you will be eating, walking off calories, drinking, and learning more about Antigua.

I met my magnificent tour guide, Khadijah at Heritage Quay where she enthusiastically got me ready for what it entailed. She shared the different cuisines I will be tasting and a little bit about them.

Our first stop was Annette’s Fine Caribbean cuisine for a hearty traditional Antiguan breakfast.

Annette was there when we stopped by, she founded this restaurant and still works there to this day. The breakfast included a cornucopia of Caribbean breakfast staples. This tray had bake (fried dough), salt fish, chop up (greens), sweet plantain, fried egg, tomato, and avocado. The way to dig in is to cut open the bake and fill it up with all of the goodies for a delicious breakfast sandwich. However, there is no right or wrong way to enjoy this breakfast, it was surely amazing and a good reminder as I hadn’t had bake and saltfish in ages.

As we crawled our way to the next stop on this tour, we passed by some landmarks where Khadijah gave me some insight into the history of the island.

The next adventure for my taste buds adventure was at Cutie’s which was indeed a cute and airy spot. Cutie’s was founded by a local Antiguan and her 3 daughters. The place serves up international cuisine with an Antiguan twist. Here is where I got the pleasure of trying the staple Fungi, which is a cornmeal dish. I love that they paired it with mussels in a vodka sauce. It was one of my favorite meals and a great introduction into their staple dish.

After 2 fulfilling dishes, it was time to go for something light. We stopped by Smoothie King for a refreshing smoothie blended with mango, watermelon, pineapple, mint, and you can’t forget the love that goes into it. Smoothie King comes out every day with his perfect stand out of this truck and feeds the neighborhood with healthy goodness.

What I really enjoyed was how this tour challenged us to also learn a new skill with the interactive rum punch workshop at the rum distillery. Rum is deep-rooted in Antigua’s history, so it’s no surprise that I would be trying some rum! I learned about all of the ingredients that go into it while making my very own perfect to my liking. Make sure you check out the Instagram highlights to see I concocted the perfect drink.

Grab a bottle of Cavalier to go

Are you full yet?

Don’t get full yet, because we still have more to go! We headed on over to Roti King for a classic curry chicken roti. Influenced by the Trinidadians that migrated to the island, his flaky roti, and bright yellow curry chicken is a decadent filling meal. At this point, I was ready to burst, but I had to keep going for the full experience.

Nearing the finish line, we walked over to Patty Delight for an Antiguan patty, which is slightly different from a traditional beef patty. They add lettuce and tomato to the beef patty, which was actually good to my surprise. I loved the juicy burst of flavors the lettuce and tomato added.

If you’re still reading this, you’ve made it full circle. Closing out this excursion we ended at One Stone Ital Shak for some pure, no additives snacks. Ital food is celebrated by those in the Rastafarian movement, and everyone is always welcomed to try their proto-vegan dishes. I had a potato and spinach ball with tumeric and ginger juice.

Eat n’ Lime food tour is for anyone who enjoys food and would a different kind of excursion other than typical sightseeing. My favorite part is giving back to the locals by supporting their businesses than a big corporation. I am a firm believer that immersing yourself and experiencing the culture of the country you visit is vital to your trip. Be sure to check my Instagram highlights and let me know if you try this excursion!
